For many years now the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Veterans and Services Association (ATSIVSA) with the tremendous support of the Australian War Memorial has conducted a short informal service dedicated to the Memory of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen, women who have served in the Australian forces. This special event is held at "The Rock" on the side of Mount Ainslie overlooking Canberra.
The service begins immediately after the popular ANZAC Day Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial. It is a free commemorative and is open to all members of the public. I really encourage you come along and be part of our special service, bring along some of your mob or some mates!
This event has a tremendously loyal and growing number of supporters from the Canberra and National community. Our numbers have steadily grown and we now expect approximately 200+ people to attend the 2009 event.
What is ATSIVSA?
ATSIVSA was established in 1999 to work closely with other Ex-service Organisations eg. the RSL and the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) to seek out Indigenous veterans to make sure they are receiving any entitlements they may have as a consequence of their service.
This website is a work in progress so watch this space...
